The government today assured the state Assembly that it would take up with the Centre the issue of a Jharkhand resident lodged in Lahore jail after a ruling MLA informed the House about it.

"It concerns with the Centre and we will take it up with the central government," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Prasad Singh told the Chair.

The minister's reply came after JMM MLA Vishnu Bhaiya informed the House that one Mangal Singh, who left home some years ago was learnt to be in Lahore jail and urged the government to take steps in freeing him.

When contacted, Jamtara Superintendent of Police Nagendra Choudhary said Mangal Singh hails from a village under Gopalpur in Jamtara district.

He said the Centre recently sent a letter and his photograph to the police of Jamtara, Deoghar and Dumka districts, asking to verify details about the person.

On verification, Mangal Singh's parents, residing in Jamtara district, recognised their son and told the police that he had left home six/seven years ago and alleged that he was not mentally sound.

The police officer said the Centre was informed after verification.
