The mercury level in Odisha's 12 districts today crossed 40 degree Celsius mark while the entire western region in the state was on boil as industrial town of Jharsuguda recorded highest temperature of the season at 44 degree Celsius.
While the maximum temperature in the state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 39.2 degree Celsius, Angul experienced a high of 43.1 degree Celsius.
The western Odisha towns which recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius were Sambalpur (42.5), Sundargarh (40.5), Hirakud (42.7), Talcher (43.6), Bhawanipatna (41.5), Bolangir (42) and Titlagarh (41.5).
A release issued by the Met office said that the heat wave would continue in the state for next 48 hours though it predicted rain or thunder shower in one or two places over Odisha in next two days.
