A legislator from one of the allies of the ruling BJP today nearly came to blows with an opposition member over a jibe about the 'chikki scam'.

As members of the Maharashtra Legislative Council were coming out of the House, some opposition legislators passed comments such as 'chikki kha' (eat chikki, referring to alleged irregularities in the procurement of chikki, a snack, and other items by Women and Child Welfare Department headed by BJP minister Pankaja Munde) and 'gobar kha' (eat cow-dung).

This led to a spat between the two legislators. However, some senior members separated the two before they came to blows.

The MLC who started the spat is known to be a staunch supporter of Pankaja Munde.

Congress has alleged irregularities in the purchases worth Rs 206 crore by Munde's department. Munde has denied the allegations.
