A sub-inspector posted at Indergarh police station in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh today shot dead a woman with his service revolver here after she allegedly turned down his love proposal yet again.

The policeman, identified as Ravendra Singh Bundela (30), was in love with the 22-year-old law student who happens to be his relative Ajay Singh Bundela's daughter, Chhattarpur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Neeraj Pandey told reporters here.

Ravendra was missing from the police station, where he was posted, for the last 4-5 days and had come to Chhattarpur where he stayed at Ajay's residence only. The accused had been pursuing the young woman for long but she had refused his proposal several times.

Today when the woman again refused him, the policeman shot her in her head from a point-blank range following which she died on the spot at Panna square here, the ASP said.

The sub-inspector was arrested soon after the incident.
