A 50-year-old woman was stabbed to death at her residence in BDD chawls in central Mumbai in front of her husband allegedly by her spurned lover, who is still at large, police said today.

Accused Parshuram Kamble (35) stabbed victim Alka Thorwade seven times with a knife last night as she had begun rejecting his advances after her husband learnt about their affair, police said.

Parshuram and Alka had an affair but they parted ways some months ago after Alka's bed-ridden husband Shivaji Thorwade got to know about it, police said.

According to police, Alka served food to local people, including Parshuram for money to meet her household expenses.

During this period, the duo became very close and maintained a relationship, said an officer with N M Joshi Marg police station.

However, she began maintaining distance after her husband learnt about their relationship. But Parshuram, who is a driver by profession and resident of Kolhapur district in the state, persistently tried to meet her despite resistance.

Parshuram had even physically hurt the victim in February following which he was arrested, police sources said adding that he was later granted bail.

"The victim had complained to police on several occasions claiming death threat to her from Parshuram but police did not take her seriously," claimed a local resident, who did not wish to be named.

At about 8.30 PM yesterday, when victim and her husband were at home, the accused barged in, picked up the knife and attacked her seven times in front of her husband.

She was rushed to nearby Nair hospital where she was declared dead before admission.
