An 18-year-old girl was allegedly thrashed by her neighbour after she rejected his love proposal and refused to abide by his instruction that she should not talk to anyone on the phone in Sangam Vihar area of south Delhi, police said.

The accused Noor Mohammad, who beat the girl with his belt, also made a vidoe record of the assault, they said.

The incident took place last evening when Mohammad allegedly lured the girl to a room in Sangam Vihar area where he proposed her.

"Noor Mohammad proposed to her, but she rejected the proposal. Thereafter, he told her that he does not like it when she talks to anyone on the telephone. On this, the girl told him that she has the freedom to speak to anyone. This angered him and he suddenly started thrashing her with his belt," said a senior police official.

During the assault, the girl's clothes got torn.

The accused then threatened the girl with dire consequences if she told about the incident to anyone.

"However, the girl told her parents about the incident yesterday. Later, they approached the police and registered a complaint against Mohammad. Police have arrested him and further investigation is on," he added.
