JIPMER performs more than 50 kidney transplants in three years

The Jawaharlal institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research here has performed a little over 50 kidney transplant operations during the last three years.

A release from the institute said the first kidney transplantation was done on March 3, 2012. "Since then over the last three years, JIPMER has done 51 kidney transplant operations successfully," the release said.

This was the largest number of kidney transplantation operations done by any hospital in Puducherry, it said.

JIPMER was carrying out research and educational activities in collaboration with the International Society of Nephrology USA and with assistance of Rs 12 lakh available from the International Society of Nephrology.
 

The release said the institute was also working in collaboration with the Departments of Nephrology of Columbia University, New York and also with the University of Michigan.

JIPMER is holding special programmes in connection with World Kidney Day today.
