Press Trust of India Srinagar
Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) has registered cases against two former bureaucrats under Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly violating rules while granting permissions for construction of multi-storey buildings here.

The cases have been registered against former Commissioners of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Farooq Ahmad Renzu and Syed Haq Nawaz, a senior official of the SVO said today.

He said the duo have been booked in connection with violation of rules of Srinagar Master Plan while granting permission for construction of multi-storey buildings at Exhibition Crossing in the heart of the city.

According to the FIR against Renzu, who was briefly with Congress after retiring from government service, he had allegedly misused official position to accrue undue benefit to a businessman by relaxing the building construction rules.

Nawaz, who was commissioner of the corporation nearly a decade ago, is accused of granting illegal permission to a business magnate for constructing a shopping mall in violation of the rules.

The SVO official said the cases against the duo were registered late last month after the preliminary inquiry found enough material for proceeding against the two officers.
