Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today directed the Relief and Rehabilitation department to begin assessment of damage caused to apricot fruit due to untimely snowfall in Kargil district to adequately compensate the affected farmers.
Following untimely snowfall in Kargil, Sayeed issued immediate directions to the department to begin the assessment of damage caused to standing apricot fruit, an official spokesman said.
"Kargil town has experienced unseasonal snowfall that has severely affected the apricot crop in the district."
As a follow up to the direction, Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Syed Basharat Bukhari also directed Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Gazzanfar Hussain, to get the assessment of the losses suffered by the fruit growers of Kargil completed expeditiously.
