The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today expressed anguish over a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Poonch district that resulted in the death of two children and injured a dozen others.
The JKPCC also demanded adequate compensation to the affected families.
"It is tragic that Pakistan has repeatedly violated the ceasefire and it was unfortunate that the unwarranted firing in Poonch resulted in the killing of two children and injuries to 12 others We demand adequate compensation to the victims and specialised treatment for the injured," JKPCC chief spokesman Ravinder Sharma said.
Criticising Pakistan for the repeated ceasefire violations, Sharma demanded that necessary measures be taken for the safety of the people living along the border.
"It is unfortunate that the PDP-BJP government does not care much for people living near the border," Sharma alleged.
He termed the Centre and the state government "total failure on all fronts" and blamed them for the "present situation of the state".
The state Congress leader demanded immediate fulfilment of the promises made to the residents of the border areas that they would be accommodated in safer zones to save them from Pakistani firing.
Two minors were killed and 12 civilians injured in Poonch in cross-border shelling by Pakistan along the LoC today.
