The Jammu and Kashmir government today directed the divisional administration of Kashmir to be on alert as heavy snowfall and rains were expected in the region, an official spokesperson said.

The local meteorological department had warned of heavy rains and snowfall from December 11 as an active western disturbance was likely to affect the region.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti directed the power development, roads and buildings, urban local bodies, public health engineering, health and other departments to gear up in view of the weather forecast, the spokesman said.

She asked them to deploy their men and machinery on the ground beforehand, he added.

The chief minister directed the management of SKIMS and SMHS hospitals to stock up on medicines and asked all district, secondary and tertiary care hospitals to be prepared.

Mufti also directed the divisional commissioner of Jammu to ensure similar measures were in place in the region.
