JK govt arrests 108 people, seizes 2335 kg of illicit liquor

Jammu and Kashmir government's Excise Department sleuths have nabbed 108 persons in 2,043 raids and seized 2,335 kg of illicit liquor (Lehan) in the first seven months of current financial year in the state, an official said today.

The seized Lehan was destroyed and a penalty of Rs 27.17 lakh recovered from the offenders during the period, Excise Commissioner Vineeta Gupta said.

While reviewing the enforcement activities undertaken by the department yesterday, the Finance Minister A R Rather was told that 660 bottles of intoxicating drugs were seized and 'Bhang' on 2122 kanals was destroyed while 10,185 kgs of polythene was also seized during checking in the same period.
 

The minister stressed on the need for intensified surveillance to check the menace of illicit liquor and cultivation of narcotics.
