A wall of the historic Legislative Assembly complex collapsed on December 10 at night due to digging work taking place close to the complex for construction of new Legislative complex in Jammu, senior government officials said today.
Nobody was injured, they said.
A panel comprising of Chief Engineer, Road and Buildings (Jammu), Tehsin Mustafa, Chief Engineer, D L Sharma and Managing Director, Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation, M M Gupta, has been constituted to probe the collapse, they said.
The panel will have to take immediate measures to ensure that the building does not get damaged further as it would be susceptible during rains, they said.
The Committee on Petitions (PC) of J&K Legislative Council headed by chairmanship B R Kundal today convened a meeting to discuss the damage to Assembly complex.
It visited the Legislative Complex and took stock of the damage due to the collapse of the building.
It observed that the building is unsafe and asked the government to shift records and make necessary arrangements for alternative office accommodation to safeguard the employees of the Council Secretariat.
