JK Gujjars to launch sustained struggle for political rights

Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar United Front (GUF), an apex body of tribals population, today decided to launch a sustained struggle for their political, social, economic and constitutional rights in the state.

"GUF has given a clarion call to launch a sustained struggle for their long overdue political, social, economic and constitutional rights in the state," president of GUF, Shah Mohammad Chowdhary said at a day-long convention of social activists, professionals and panchayat members here today.

GUF will launch a struggle over issues including political reservation of STs in the state legislature, reservation for weaker sections at state, block and district level panchayat institutions, removing imbalances in recruitments and promotions to various state services and due representation to all weaker sections in recruitment agencies, he said.
 

It also called for a special recruitment drive in the police.

It was unanimously resolved in the convention to constitute a coordination committee under the chairmanship of Shah Mohd Chowdhary, to coordinate with leaders, prominent social activists and panchayat members.
