Jammu and Kashmir Police today launched Electronic Surveillance Unit in Anantnag district to check cyber crimes and track down the misuse of internet facilities, especially by terror outfits.
The move comes against the backdrop of Hizbul Mujahideen militants frequently posting their photographs and videos on social networking sites in an effort to lure new recruits.
Director General of JK Police K Rajendra Kumar also reviewed the security situation in south Kashmir and stressed the need for efficient strategy to counter the "nefarious designs of bad elements," an official spokesman said.
Addressing police officers in Anantnag during his one-day visit to South Kashmir, Kumar said zero tolerance for human rights violations and collateral damages is to be ensured while dealing tough situations.
The meeting was convened to review the security and law and order situation in the South Kashmir Police districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Awantipora.
The DGP asked the officers to make coordinated efforts with other security agencies.
"Input sharing is imperative for achieving desired results," he said, and asked the officers to involve youth in community policing which could help in channelising their energies in a better way.
He said people-friendly policing and better deliverance are the effective methods to reach out to people.
"People's security is our prime concern and this aspect of policing is being focused on priority to bring innovative changes in our working," he said.
