Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker, Mubarak Gul today appealed to the Centre and Chief Ministers of all the states to ensure safety and protection of students from Kashmir who are studying outside the state.

Gul made the appeal after opposition PDP MLA Mansoor Hussain, quoting media reports, said some engineering students at a Mohali college, including eight from Kashmir, clashed with other students when a row ensued over a cricket match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

"This is a serious issue. The chief ministers of all the states should ensure protection of Kashmiri students in their states," the Speaker said.

He also appealed to the Union Home Minister to look into the issue and write to the Chief Ministers to take the matter seriously.
