JKLA panel calls for strict enforcement of ban on polythene

The Chairman of Environment Committee (EC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly M Y Tarigami, along with other members took round of the city this morning to assess the overall situation of solid waste management and the civic facilities.

The committee members asked for immediate lifting of the garbage dumped at various places, besides lifting of debris of damaged buildings, besides taking all possible measures to curb the menace of polythene, banned in the state in the year 2008.

At Bhagwati Nagar, the committee members inspected the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) and inquired about the status of functioning of the facility.

 

The committee was told that the plant was ready and would be made functional after linking of the households with the sewerage line.

Tarigami aslo instructed the authorities of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to launch a campaign to aware the people about the impact of increasing pollution, especially in the Jammu and Srinagar cities.
