The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly's Committee on Environment has stressed on strict implementation of environment laws, and sought stern action against the industrial units not complying with the green norms.
Noting that development should not be at the cost of environment, the committee headed by CPI(M) MLA M Y Tarigami also called for use of modern technology to check pollution.
At a review meeting of the committee here today, Tarigami said it is the collective responsibility of everyone to ensure environment safety.
The meeting was informed that the J&K SIDCO, on the recommendations of the committee, has appointed consultants for preparation of detailed project report to establish Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) in all industrial units of the state.
