JKNPP protests against police canecharge on labourers at Katra

Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today held a demonstration against the alleged police atrocities on the agitating labourers in Katra.

JKNPP, led by President Balwant Singh Mankotia President, activists and labourers staged a protest outside Raj Bhawan in Jammu today.

Mankotia said that it was unfortunate that the district administration imposed section 144 to suppress the voice of the innocent labourers.

The forcible lifting of five labourers of Katra Sangarsh Simiti, who were observing fast unto death, and lathi-charged by police had only exposed the draconian face of the state government who was persistently resorting to the policy of oppression to quell the voice of the people, he said.
 

Restrictions under section 144 of CrPc were imposed in Katra, base camp of Mata Vaishnodevi Cave shrine in Reasi district in view of the protests by labourers andpotters against opening up of the new battery car track to the pilgrimage.
