Services of the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) were badly hit today as the employees went on a strike demanding immediate implementation of the 6th Pay Commission scales.

Led by General Secretary Paramjit Singh, over 250 staffers, including drivers and conductors, assembled at the organisation's headquarters here where they sat on a dharna against the government's alleged failure to grant them benefits under the 6th Pay Commission.

Both intra and inter-state public transport services were affected by the strike.

Singh told reporters that their protest was also over the government's non-payment of dearness allowance for years.

"Unless the government fulfils our demand within a week, we will resort to an indefinite strike. The government will be responsible for losses and problems caused to people on account of the strike," Singh warned.
