JMC officer injured in demolition drive of Cong leader's shops

An official of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was today injured in a clash during an anti-encroachment drive against shops built by a Congress leader here.

Chief Enforcement Officer, Rajesh Gupta, was injured in the clash which occurred during the demolition of four shops built by Congress leader Surinder Singh Shingari on government land/state land at Maheshpura Chowk and Bakshi Nagar, a JMC spokesman said.

Gupta has been hospitalised, the spokesperson added.

The drive, being carried out by the Enforcement Staff led by the Chief Enforcement Officer under the guidance of Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu, Kiran Wattal, has been intensified against unauthorised constructions in Maheshpura Chowk and Bakshi Nagar areas, he said.
 

The drive was conducted with the help of police force from District Police Lines, he added.

The spokesman appealed to the general public to seek proper building permissions before starting any construction work to avoid action which may lead to demolition of unauthorised and illegal constructions, he said.
