JNU professor awarded for contribution to Mongolian studies

A professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University has been awarded by the Government of Mongolia for his contribution to Mongolian Studies and development of relations between the two countries.

"Nairamdal Medal, the Mongolian State Award, has been conferred on Sharad K Soni, an associate professor and Director, Area Studies Programme, Centre for Inner Asian Studies, JNU by the decree of the President of Mongolia in recognition of his work in Mongolian Studies as well as development of relations between the two countries," an official notification by the varsity said.

The Nairamdal (Friendship) medal, one of the highest honours bestowed upon a foreigner by the Mongolian Government, is solely given to foreigners who have contributed to strengthen the collaboration between their country and Mongolia through their work.
 

"On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Republic of India, a Mongolist from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Sharad Kumar Soni is awarded with the Friendship Medal of Mongolia for his contribution to friendship and cooperation between the two countries and Mongolian studies," the Presidential Decree says.

The award was presented to Soni by the Chief of Staff of the President of Mongolia at Government House in the country's capital Ulaanbaatar last week.
