Students' election committee of the disbanded GSCASH in JNU today conducted polls to elect four student representatives defying restrictions imposed by the administration.

According to the Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment election committee chairperson Bhagat Singh Saini, 2,366 of 7,904 voters (or 29.93 per cent) turned up to vote between 9 am and 5 pm.

The Chief Proctor and the Registrar of the JNU had warned Saini and others of action should they hold elections of the disbanded GSCASH.

"Appropriate action will be taken against all indulging in illegal activities in JNU," Registrar Pramod Kumar had said in a letter.

The administration, which had scheduled polls to elect three student representatives to newly-formed Internal Complaints Committee which replaced GSCASH, declared three candidates as "elected unopposed" after no other students filed nominations.

A section of students and teachers had approached the Delhi High Court challenging the decision of the administration to replace GSCASH.

The court directed the administration to maintain status quo on the sealing of GSCASH office and sought a reply on the plea.
