Actor and martial artist Joe Taslim has been cast in a pivotal role in the upcoming "Mortal Kombat" reboot.
The 38-year-old actor is best known for featuring in films such as "Fast and Furious 6", "Star Trek Beyond" and "The Raid".
The project is based on the classic '90s arcade game that was centred around a massive roster of character fighters from different realms in a fictional universe battling for supremacy.
In the reboot, which will be directed by debutante filmmaker Simon McQuoid, Taslim will portray Sub-Zero, a character who fights with ice, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
James Wan is producing the movie, along with Michael Clear, Todd Garner and Jeremy Stein.
Lawrence Kasanoff is executive producing alongside E Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear and Sean Robins. Greg Russo penned the most recent draft.

It was Paul WS Anderson who had famously adapted the game into a 1995 film, "Mortal Kombat".
The movie followed some of the game's classic characters, like Liu Kang and Johnny Cage, who were invited to a tournament on a mysterious island only to find out that the fate of the world hung in the balance.
The film was followed by a sequel, "Mortal Kombat Annihilation", which released in 1997.
