Citing non-development and step-motherly treatment by BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh government to Marwahi and Kota constituencies, Congress leader Ajit Jogi's wife Renu and son Amit are confident of winning the seats in the polls.

Both mother-son duo are aggressively campaigning in the two constituencies and in the rest of Chhattisgarh to ensure Congress' return in the state to end BJP's ten-year rule.

Congress has been out of power in Chhattisgarh since 2003.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi's son Amit is contesting from Marwahi constituency (reserved for Scheduled Tribes), while his wife, who is a member of Chhattisgarh legislative assembly, is seeking mandate for her second term from voters of Kota constituency.

Amit, who has undertaken a mass contact programme to woo voters in Marwahi constituency, is quiet confident of ousting BJP government from the state.

"We are confident of winning not only Marwahi seat but other constituencies of the state as well. I am very confident that Congress will win and form its government in the state," Amit told PTI on the sidelines of his campaign at Pendra, about 140 kms from Bilaspur.

Amit accuses Raman Singh government of betraying people by wrongly claiming benefits given by the Centre to people of states under various welfare scheme.

"Raman Singh government has not done anything for the people of this (Marwahi) area. He has not fulfilled promises of providing free electricity to farmers. Besides, no development work has been taken place in most parts of the state," he said.

Amit plans to campaign for Congress in other seats as well.

"I will not give more than three days to Marwahi for campaign. I will go to other areas as well. My father (Ajit Jogi) will campaign in 32 seats and I will campaign in about 40 seats across the state," he said.

Elections in 18 constituencies, most of them in Naxal-infested Bastar region, were held yesterday.

As many as 72 constituencies, including Marwahi (about 170 kms from Bilaspur) and Kota (spread in about 40-140 kms from Bilaspur) will go for polling on November 19.

Amit is contesting from his father's seat. Ajit Jogi, who is an MLA from Marwahi, is not contesting polls this time.
