Britain's new prime minister Boris Johnson will talk by telephone with the president of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday, the EU said.
Johnson was sworn in on Wednesday and has already declared that the Brexit withdrawal agreement his predecessor agreed with Brussels is "unacceptable".
Juncker's spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said the pair would talk at 5:45pm Brussels time (1545 GMT).
Earlier, Andreeva had reiterated the European Union's longstanding position that it will not re-open talks on the Brexit divorce deal.
"We have agreed a withdrawal agreement with the United Kingdom government and the deal we have achieved is the best deal possible," she told reporters.

"We are willing to add language to the Political Declaration but we will not reopen the Withdrawal Agreement," she said.
Appearing in parliament for the first time as prime minister earlier Thursday, Johnson denounced the deal signed by his predecessor Theresa May.
"Its terms are unacceptable to this parliament and to this country," Johnson said, announcing that planning for a "no deal" Brexit was his top priority.
"Today is the first day of a new approach, which will end with our exit from the EU on 31 October," he said.
Johnson argued that, by requiring Britain to remain in the EU customs union until a way is found to keep the Irish border open, the deal signs away the UK's "economic independence".
But Andreeva, again re-stating the long-standing EU position, insisted that this "Irish backstop" would not be abandoned.
"When it comes to the backstop questions there as well our position has not changed," she said.
"We expect the United Kingdom to live up to its commitments to avoid a hard border while protecting Ireland's place in the internal market.
