"Earlier the government of India and Bangladesh had cleared the state government's proposal to construct the bridge and now it has been decided that a joint team of engineers of both the countries would examine soil and other technicalities to build the bridge", Tripura Industries and Commerce minister, Jiten Chowdhury told reporters.
"When the bridge is built in the Ramgarh area of Bangladesh, it would connect the Chittagong port, just 75 K.M from Indian border town, Sabroom and open the gate way to carry goods from the port to the north eastern region of our country", he added.
Chowdhury said, the estimated cost for construction of the bridge would be Rs. 40 crore.
He said Sabroom would be connected by Indian railway by 2014 and if the bridge could be constructed before it, India's north eastern region would be well connected with the Chittagong port.
