Director Joss Whedon, regrets the fact that he could not direct the forthcoming "Star Wars Episode VII".

His was one of the first names to be considered for directing Disney's highly anticipated revival of the space saga

due in 2015.

He has admitted that he was disappointed that he could not take the coveted job because he was already committed to the sequel to "Avengers" which will also release in the same year, reported Contactmusic.

"There was a moment of rue that I was already committed, I'm not going to lie. Who doesn't want to do that as a kid?," he said.

Whedon, however, believes that the sequel to the space saga is in safe hands with JJ Abrams, the director of 'Star Trek Into Darkness'. Abrams has been confirmed by Disney as George Lucas's sucessor.

"I think they got the right guy so just knowing that I'm going to enjoy the film when it comes out is great. It's going to be great and I don't have to do any work," he added.

"Star Wars Episode VII" and "The Avengers 2" are both set for release in 2015.
