Bhattacharjee died at Silchar Medical College Hospital yesterday following prolonged illness, family sources said.
He was 37 and is survived by his mother.
He was suffering from liver complications and was under treatment for the last few months.
He started his career as a journalist from Prantojyoti, the oldest Bengali daily in north east, and later joined the now defunct daily Sonar Cachar.
