Journalist organisations condemn murder of AP reporter

Media associations today condemned the murder of a senior journalist in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and demanded an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the deceased.

M V N Shankar, working for Telugu daily 'Andhra Prabha' at Chilakaluripeta in Guntur was fatally attacked by unknown assailants with iron rods on the night of November 25.

Indian Journalists Union (IJU), Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Andhra Pradesh Newspaper Employees Federation (APNEF) strongly condemned Shankar's brutal murder and demanded that the culprits be immediately arrested and brought to book.

IJU Secretary General Devulapalli Amar, APUWJ President D Somasundar and Press Council of India member K Amarnath stated that Shankar was killed for his reportage against the mafia involved in black-marketing of essential items provided to the poor through Public Distribution System.
 

They have asked the state government to pay an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the slain journalist's family.
