V Ravindran Nair, one of the prominent journalists of print media in Arunachal Pradesh since its inception in 1988, passed away this morning after a brief illness.
He was 52.
Nair passed away at his residence around 10.30 am. He was a visiting faculty of the mass communication department of Rajiv Gandhi University.
On receiving the news from Dawnlit Post editor Gabriel D Wangsu, the deceased's brother-in-law requested the media fraternity to conduct the last rites here.
"I am extremely grieved and pained at the demise of Ravindran, who has been an epitome of journalism in Arunachal Pradesh since the inception of mass media in the state," Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said in his condolence message.
"His sudden demise has come as a shock for me and I share the grief and pain felt by the media fraternity as he was sincerely working for over two decades and was known as a face of print journalism through his qualitative reporting. He breathed his last as a true solider of the pen, far away from his homeland, in our state, which he had made his second home," Tuki said.
Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy, Science & Technology Parliamentary Secretary Phurpa Tsering, Nari-Koyu MLA Tako Dabii, IPR secretary Dani Sulu, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki's Political Secretary Bamang Tago, Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACCI) President Techi Lala and General Secretary Tarh Nachung, councillors Tarh Nachung and Gangte Tagung, NES members Tarh Tabin and Hari Maring, ACR Chairman Patey Tayum, and Heema Hospital CMD Dr Byabang Rana rushed to Arunachal Press Club premises, where Ravindran's body was laid in state, to pay their last respects.
Ravindran, who hailed from Palaghat in Kerala, had joined the Echo of Arunachal, three months after the first newspaper of the state was launched. He joined Dawnlit Post in 1998.
