CBI, which is investigating the alleged disproportionate assets case of Jagan, has frozen the bank accounts of Sakshi paper and TV and also another of Jagan's company Janani Infrastructure.
The state government recently issued orders stopping the government advertisements to Sakshi media. However, the AP High Court passed an interim order suspending the government order.
During today's meeting, the journalists and writers alleged government and CBI are "stifling the freedom of press" in the name of investigation.
They demanded government as well as investigating agencies should leave the press alone while continuing the probe into the alleged irregularities.
The government had also issued orders authorising CBI to attach the properties of the Sakshi media group.
They said hundreds of employees working in Sakhsi media will be directly or indirectly affected by CBI's actions.
"This is a blatant misuse of power and attack on the freedom of the press," they charged while warning the government that journalists' unions would take up the agitation throughout the country and educate people on the government's "oppression" on the press.
K Srinivas Reddy, former Secretary General of Indian Journalists Union, D Amar, former chairman Press Academy of AP and other senior journalists from various newspapers and channels voiced their concerns and expressed solidarity.
