Jammu Pradesh United Front (JPUF) today took out a protest rally demanding permanent settlement and rehabilitation of West Pak, PoK and Chamb refugees in the state and a government headed by a chief minister from the region.

Over 200 activists, led by former MLA and convener of JPUF Balwant Singh Mankotia, took out the rally from Panjtirthi Chowk in Jammu city to press their demands.

However, the protesters were not allowed to move towards the Press Club area following which they engaged in a minor altercation with the security personnel and shouted slogans in support of their demands.

Some of the JPUF leaders were arrested and later let off by the Police on bail.

"The protest leaders were arrested by the police and kept in custody at Panjtirthi Police Station. They were later released on bail in the evening," JPUF spokesman said.
