Ruling UDF constituent Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samiti led by K R Gowri Amma today demanded removal of Kerala Congress-M leader P C Goerge from chief whip post for his derogatory comments against her.

George's unsavoury comment against Gowri Amma's late husband and CPI veteran T V Thomas have also touched a raw nerve of the JSS.

JSS state committee meeting held here decided to send letters to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, UDF convenor P P Thankachan and KC-M leader K M Mani raising the demand to oust George.

Talking to reporters here, 93 year-old Gowri Amma said no one had ever used such words against her in a career spanning several decades.

She said Chief Minister's approach towards the issue was not suited to the post he was holding as leader of the UDF ministry. KC-M leader K M Mani should also restrain his colleague, she said.

Sections in the Congress and George's own party KC-M have expressed strong resentment over George's fulminations against UDF leaders in recent weeks.

George's off-the-cuff remarks also figured in the Assembly during the budget presentation on Friday, with the LDF Opposition, including its leader V S Achuthanandan demanding action to rein in the Chief Whip.

The Opposition calmed down after Speaker G Karthikeyan assured them that he would examine the matter in the light of the rules of the House and let them know what he could do in the matter.
