JSW Steel's April output grows 2% to 1.01 mn tonnes

Production of long steel used in construction sector, however, declined 19% at 133,000 tonnes in April

JSW Steel today reported a 2 per cent growth in crude steel production for April at 1.01 million tonnes.

The steelmaker, with 14.5 million tonnes installed capacity, had produced 990,000 crude steel in the same month last year, it said in a statement.

Production of long steel used mainly in the construction sector, however, registered a decline of 19 per cent at 133,000 tonnes in April, from 164,000 tonnes a year ago.


Output of flat steel, which is used in the automotive and consumer goods segments, fell 1 per cent during the month to 765,000 tonnes against 776,000 tonnes a year earlier.

JSW Steel is one of the largest producers and exporters of coated flat products in the country with presence in over 100 countries spanning five continents.

The shares were trading at Rs 902.40, down 1.97 from the previous close, at 1403 hours on BSE.
