JSW Steel's 10 million tonnes per annum Vijaynagar facility in Karnataka has been chosen as the best domestic integrated steel plant for the Prime Minister's trophy for the year 2012-13.

"Winning the Prime Minister's Trophy for our Vijyanagar facility is a matter of great pride for us and reinforces our commitment to pursue excellence in all our endeavours," JSW Steel's Deputy Managing Director Vinod Nowal said in a statement today.

Based on the overall performance and on a set of criteria like operational, financial, market, export, quality, customer satisfaction, environment and human resource, the award is given annually by the Prime Minister of India and carries a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 2 crore.

The evaluation for the award is done by a panel of judges comprising technologists, economists, consumers of steel and workers' representatives.

This is for the first time JSW Steel would be awarded with the trophy. The prestigious award will be conferred by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a ceremony to be held here on a later date.
