The proposed march by Jadavpur University students tomorrow to Lal Bazar, where Kolkata Police headquarters is situated, to protest against police lathicharge on students has been called off as the cases lodged against students were withdrawn.
"Our proposed march to Lal Bazar on Thursday has been called off as the cases lodged against 30 students have been decided to be withdrawn by the JU authorities. So we have decided to call off this march. We will again sit tomorrow to decide on the future course of action," said Tanmay a Representative of the Students' union of JU today.
Several intellectuals and educationists had gathered inside the JU campus today to address a citizen's convention condemning the police brutality on students last week, when the police forcefully tried to free the Vice Chancellor from a 'gherao' by the students.

West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi who is also the Chancellor of the University, has already intervened to end the stalemate in the prestigious institution, where students continue to boycott classes demanding the VC's resignation. Those in the mass communication department boycotted their examination on September 18.
