According to prosecution, nine-year-old Muskan Jain and her seven-year-old brother Ritihik were taken in a car by Mohanraj, who had worked as a driver in their house, from the school and taken to Pollachi along with one Manoharan, on October 29, 2010.

Though the intention was to seek ransom, both reportedly raped the girl and fearing backlash, drowned them in a water body near Pollachi.

The bodies were fished out later.

Mohanraj was killed in an encounter with police a week later when he tried to snatch the pistol of a police inspector, while he was being taken to the scene of the crime, while Manoharan was lodged in the Central Jail here.

The case was going on in the Mahila Court here.
