Judges Committee to hear representatives of Bar on Advocates

The Full Court meeting of the Madras High Court today reiterated its June 16 resolution that the newly constituted Judges Committee would hear representatives of the Bar on suggestions and modifications to the recently amended rules to Advocates Act.

The dates of hearing suggestions were fixed on July 22 and 29.

A resolution passed by the Full Court, while taking note of the Joint Action Committee of Bar associations proposed gherao of High court premises at the principal seat here, in Madurai bench and subordinate courts on July 25, said it would take recourse to powers vested under Article 215 of the Constitution, read with relevant provisions of Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 if they went ahead and prevented ingress and egress of lawyers and litigants within the court precincts.
 

It was also resolved that the Registrar General, High Court, Madras and Registrar (Administration), High Court, Madurai Bench, would interface with Police/CISF and make arrangements to place video cameras at the gates and within High Court precincts so that a record of any untoward incident happening is maintained.

Another resolution was that the Principal District Judges/District Judges, as the case may be, would interact with police officials concerned in their districts and make arrangements to videograph any untoward incident, if it occurs, in and around court precincts within their respective control.

The Full Court meeting also resolved that the Registrar General, High Court, Madras, Registrar (Administration) High Court, Madurai Bench and Principal District District Judges/ District Judges, as the case may be, would submit a report to the High Court for taking action under the Contempt of Courts Act and any other suitable action.
