Comedienne Ellen DeGeneres feels judging singing competition series "American Idol" was one of her worst decisions.

DeGeneres, 57, was tapped to replace Paula Abdul as a judge for the ninth season, but she left the show after only one season, saying in a statement that the series "didn't feel like the right fit for me."

Speaking with Howard Stern during an interview for his SiriusXM show, the host of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" admitted she made a mistake by agreeing to be on "Idol".

"That's one of the worst decisions I've made," she said.

"As a fan of the shows, it doesn't matter that I sing or I know anything about pitch or anything, I'm like everybody else at home. It's 'American Idol'... So I thought I'm going to represent those people at home that have opinions. I just thought, I can't break this person's heart. Let somebody else do that."

"American Idol" will return for a 15th and final season in 2016, with Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr returning as judges.
