Judicial activities across Odisha, including that of Orissa High Court, were paralysed today as lawyers observed a 'protest day'.

The lawyers staged dharnas in front of the courts to protest against alleged police inaction in detecting Tuesday's murder of an advocate at Boudh.

Meanwhile, Kandhmal police has arrested at least three persons in connection with the advocate's murder.

Police suspect previous rivalry over a land dispute was the motive behind the murder. The deceased lawyer was a prosecution witness in the 2004 murder of his uncle.

Expressing satisfaction over the arrests, Orissa High Court Bar Association President Ashok Mohapatra said its executive body would meet soon to chalk out its further course of action.

The bar association had on Thursday called for indefinite protest.

The High Court bar association had requested other bar associations of the state to observe 'protest day' today and in response they boycotted courts across the state.
