The decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Principal Secretary (Planning and Development) Vijay Prakash told reporters.

The former Patna High Court Judge Uday Sinha will head the one-man judicial commission to probe Madhubani violence and the police firing on the protesters, he said.

The judicial commission will have a two-point reference -- background of violence and arson in Madhubani district and direct and indirect factors responsible for it and justification of police firing on the protesters and fixing responsibility of the officials for the same, Prakash said.

The commission has been asked to submit its report within six months, the Principal Secretary (Planning and Development) said.

Madhubani district was rocked by largescale violence and arson last week over the kidnapping and murder of a boy Prashant Kumar Jha (17) which later turned out to be false as the boy in question surfaced in New Delhi with his girlfriend.
