On May 2, 16 policemen were injured when a protest by members of Tablighi Jamaat community against the incident in which five members of their community were thrashed a day before by some youths on board a Delhi-Kandhla train turned violent.

A team of the group, Janhastakshep, which recently visited the site of the incident also demanded proper security arrangement on trains, particularly in the stretch between Bagpat and Shamli.

The team interacted with locals, station master Bishan Singh and other employees at the station. They also interacted with the cabin man, Munnilal, who was manning the cabin at the time of incident, the members of local Tablighi Jamat, SHO AK Chauhan among others.

"Ever since 2013 violence and displacement in western UP and its electoral fall out, the Sangh Parivar through its different fronts seems to keep communal tension alive in the area... The coming days till 1917 Assembly polls, there might be many incidences of electorally motivated communal tensions," the team alleged.
