A 71-year-old farmer was trampled to death by an elephant near Pollachi today, police said.
A wild elephant had strayed into his farm and started destroying the maize crop and noticing the farmer, hit him with its trunk.
His wife found him dead later and informed police.
Forest department officials are taking steps to chase the elephant into the jungle, they said.
