The national capital must be equipped with the best of medical facilities and these must trickle down to the neediest, Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung said today.
Jung visited the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital and inspected the medical facilities at the hospital.
"Under medical distress, a doctor's healing touch can work miracles for a patient and his or her family members. We need to mainstream the element of care in our hospitals right from the moment the patient walks in until the patient leaves the hospital premises," Jung said while highlighting the importance of the term 'care' in health-care and medical-care.
He spent close to two hours at the GTB hospital and interacted with the patients, doctors and hospital staff and heard their concerns. He visited the OPD wings, the Diabetic, Endocrine and Metabolic Care Block, the Mother and Child Health Block, the Pharmacy among other facilities during his visit.
A presentation on transforming GTB into a model hospital was made by the medical superintendent (MS) who highlighted the challenges that need to be addressed.
The MS also highlighted the problems related to large number of patients that the hospital caters to, those of space constraints, upgradation of facilities such as kitchen and laundry, need for traffic regulation, need for management information system and human resources management.
"While there is increasing pressure on existing facilities, hospitals must augment their infrastructure and services keeping their future needs in mind. This must be part of the planning process," said Jung.
Jung directed the Medical Superintendent of GTB Hospital to improve the services in the OPD registration and pharmacy counters so as to reduce the waiting time at these counters.
The Lieutenant Governor also instructed the Additional Commissioner of Police (North East), present at the meeting, to immediately address the issues related to parking, traffic regulation, security and menace of touts in consultation with the hospital staff.
Last week on April 15, Jung had visited the LNJP hospital to review healthcare facilities present there.
