To encourage people to use the subways regularly, Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today stressed the need for maintenance, cleanliness and security in all the 39 subways across the national capital.

Jung said that necessary steps should be initiated to auction the the 103 shops and spaces in these subways maintained by Public Works Department and New Delhi Municipal Council.

The concerned agencies can initiate the process on the pattern of auction of commercial spaces made by Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DSIIDC), Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) etc so that the subways are more frequently used by the general public.

Lt Governor said that a road map in this regard should be prepared in three months.

Once the auction of these shops are completed, Jung said the remaining space should be used for advertisements as well as beautification.
