Junior Engineer arrested for taking bribe from contractor

A Junior Engineer posted under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was today arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs one lakh from a contractor in Kathua district.

On the complaint of the contractor, a special squad of Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation nabbed Mohammad Younis, Junior Engineer PMGSY Division Billawar, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh, officials said.

In his complaint, the contractor alleged that Younis was demanding Rs one lakh as bribe for clearing pending bills amounting to Rs 15 lakhs for construction works of road from Ther to Ghat in Billawar.

The total cost of construction of the road was Rs 50 lakhs out of which Rs 35 lakh had already been released to the contractor.
