A junior engineer working with the Block Development Officer of Ramnagar tehsil in Udhampur district was arrested today for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000, the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) said.
"Junior engineer of Rural Engineering Wing of Block Development Officer (BDO) office at Gordhi in Ramnagar tehsil of District Udhampur trapped by SVO while taking bribe," an SVO officer said.
A case was lodged against Girdhari Lal after a complaint by Sham Lal who alleged that the former demanded a bribe of Rs 14,000 for preparation of a payment bill in his favour, he said.
Acting on the complaint, the SVO laid out a trap and caught Lal while he was accepting the bribe, the official said.
Investigation of the case is underway, he added.
