A junior engineer in a power utility company in Odisha's Balasore district was arrested by Vigilance sleuths for allegedly accepting bribe for installation of an electric transformer.

Kaustuva Mohapatra, junior engineer in NESCO, Khaira section, had demanded illegal gratification of Rs 1,500 from the complainant for installation of transformer as the one installed earlier has been non-functional since August 14 this year, a vigilance release said.

Accordingly, a trap was laid yesterday and Mohapatra was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 1,500 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from the pant pocket of Mohapatra and seized in presence of witnesses, it said.

While the engineer was arrested, his rented house at Khaira was searched and the case is under investigation, it added.
