Justice A K Roopnwal Commission seeks public views

The one man Judicial Commission set up by the Union HRD ministry to probe the suicide of dalit scholar Rohith Vemula in the University of Hyderabad has sought views from stakeholders in this regard.

In a public notice, the Commission consisting of Justice (retd) Ashok Kumar Roopanwal has asked for comments by e-mail (uohinquirycommission.Ugc@gmail.Com) or by post on the issue by February 21.

It has also said that student unions and representatives of teaching and non teaching staff can meet it on February 23 at the UGC regional office in Hyderabad.

Chief Proctor, Wardens, Dean (Students Welfare), Officials of Equal Opportunity Cell, SC and ST cells as well as the officials of students grievance cell and anti ragging cell can meet it on February 24.
 

Prof Appa Rao Podile, the VC, Prof M Periasamy, the acting VC and senior officials of the Hyderabad University like the Finance Officer and the Registrar can meet the commission on February 25.

The Justice Roopanwal Commission was set up by the HRD ministry to enquire into the facts and circumstance leading to the death of Vemula and fix responsibility for lapses.

The Commission will also review the existing grievance redressal mechanism for students at the University, and to suggest improvements.

Meanwhile, sources said that the a section of students of the University have approached the Union HRD ministry seeking to give their views on the issue.
